AND means both tests must pass
Sometimes one test isn't enough: you want students in grade 12 who are also in the chess club. AND joins two tests, and a row has to pass both to come back. Each extra AND makes the result smaller, because every row has more to live up to.
A tiny example
In plain English: Show me the names of the students who are in grade 12 and in the chess club.
SELECT name
FROM students
WHERE grade = 12 AND club = 'chess';What comes back
name
---
Lina
Ravi
Lina and Ravi are the only students who pass both tests: grade 12 and chess club.
